FABRICS & PRODUCT CARE

CARING FOR YOUR SWIMSUIT

  • Unpack your new swimsuit and feel its soft, luxurious fabric. As you put it on, it embraces you with a comforting hug. Not only do you feel great, but a glance in the mirror shows you look amazing too.
  • Here’s how to keep recreating this moment with the same swimsuit. The longevity of your suit depends on how well you protect your investment.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR FABRICS – BACK TO BASICS

  • Nylon is a man-made fabric chosen for swimwear due to its strength, durability, mildew resistance, elasticity, low moisture absorption, and increased abrasion resistance compared to natural fibers. However, it can pick up dye and soil during laundering, is sensitive to strong sunlight, prone to pilling (fuzzballs or fiber balls), and melts under high heat.
  • Elastane adds strength and elasticity without weight. It’s easily damaged by chlorine bleach and heat, may yellow when exposed to light, and melts at low heat. Follow these precautions to maintain your swimsuit’s quality.

AVOID TOO MUCH CHLORINE

  • Our swimwear is treated for chlorine resistance, but it’s still best to protect your suit from chlorine, a component of bleach. This is especially crucial for swimsuits without chlorine resistance. Be cautious as some pools may have higher chlorine levels than optimal.

STEER CLEAR OF ROUGH SURFACES

  • Our fabric is soft and durable, but rough surfaces can cause scuffs and snags. Given the full coverage of our swimsuits, they’re more likely to contact various surfaces. Here are some tips: Pool
  • Sand and dirt can be abrasive. Use a towel and rinse your suit immediately after use. Most beach sand is fine, but caution is always better.
  • Natural fiber beach bags can be abrasive. To avoid pilling, wear a cover-up like a kaftan to prevent direct contact between the suit and the rough bag.

AVOID EXCESSIVE LOTIONS AND OILS Sunscreen, tanning oils, and cosmetics can harm delicate materials, breaking down the fabric over time. Rinse any stains immediately, then clean with vinegar or mild detergent in cold water for 30 minutes. Apply sun lotions before wearing your suit and let them dry first.

FOLLOW THE CARE LABEL FOR WASHING YOUR SWIMSUIT

Follow these steps after each wear:

  • Rinse your swimsuit in cold water or take it with you into a cold shower. Even a small rinse is better than nothing. Avoid wrapping your suit in a wet towel used for drying off, as it can contribute to chemical exposure.
  • Wash light colors individually to keep your Lula White swimsuit pristine. Wash dark colors separately to avoid color bleeding.
  • Handwash your swimsuit. Gentle cycles can be okay, but heat and tumbling wear out the material and affect the elastic.
  • Use mild soap. Avoid regular detergent, bleach, and fabric conditioners, as they can damage the fabric.
  • Treat stains directly with spot cleaner or use baking soda or vinegar with water before washing.
  • Gently squeeze out water. Instead of wringing, roll the suit to remove excess water.
  • Lay the swimsuit out to dry in a shaded, well-ventilated space. Avoid hanging, as water pooling at the bottom can stretch the fibers. Protect from direct sunlight to prevent colour damage.

STORING YOUR SWIMSUITProper storage affects your swimsuit's longevity. Follow these tips:

  • Store at room temperature and avoid plastic containers to prevent mildew from moisture exposure.
  • Alternate between swimsuits. Having at least one or two extra allows your swimsuit to dry and snap back into shape. A 24-hour break is beneficial for the elasticity.
  • Keep a separate suit for hot tubs, possibly an older or less favorite one, as high temperatures and increased chlorine can damage your suit.
